Outfit of the Day
Early in my thrifting love affair, my husband and I found ourselves in San Antonio visiting family. We did the Riverwalk, ate authentic Tex-Mex meals with said family, remembered the Alamo, you know, all the things you do. But when we had time to ourselves, what we really wanted to explore was comic book stores (him) and thrift shops (me).
This skirt was found in one of those shops. It was the wackiest thing, with all its crazy bursts and prints. I’ve never seen a skirt made for adult women with ant graphics on it! Not to mention an embroidered dragon and fabric that looks pieced together. I’d never heard of the name Desigual, but $4 you say? Sold. I happily packed it for the return trip.
While we had time to kill on layover in the Dallas airport, I saw an airport shop with brightly colored clothes and thought I’d take a look. So many cool patterns, prints and colors all in one place had my head spinning, and I considered going ahead and splurging on an item. I started with the sale rack and immediately realized splurging was not in the cards for me. There were skirts there on sale for $50-$80, and I just couldn’t do it. But those skirts sure looked very familiar… When I got home and double-checked the label, I could say for certainty the Desigual store I was in had the same name as the wacky $4 skirt I’d just bought!
I paired the skirt with a black tank, a thrifted lime green shrug and a beaded statement necklace that complements the outrageous-ness of the skirt. My lime green Chinese take out purse makes the embroidered dragon feel at home.
