Outfit of the day
My grandmother is here in town, and at 83 years old she loves nothing more than singing and dancing. They are her #1 favorite activities. I’d been trying to find a place in town that had partner-dancing and finally got clued-in to a spot so we made plans to go. I paired this black and white noir print dress and shrug with mary jane heels and this sleek purse for a 1940’s vibe. The dress even has a built-in petticoat so the it has that extra flounce. Perfect for a week night out on the town old-school dancing!
I actually bought this dress quite a while ago, and when I tried it on in the store, it had a high neckline that would ensure no girls making an appearance at the office. When I got it home, I realized the previous owner had shortened the original length of the spaghetti straps by looping them inside the dress and tacking the straps with stitches. I wore it that way a couple times, but it was really too tight under the arm. Then it sat in my closet for a while. I considered giving it back to Goodwill, which was a shame, since I like those ruffles. In a last ditch effort, I cut the tacking stitches and tried it on to see if it was just too low cut or what. Turned out, I kinda liked it better this way. It is certainly more comfortable, and now there’s room for my beaded necklace. My only regret is that we didn’t get a shot of the dress without the shrug.
