Outfit of the Day
Happy Birthday to me! This Labor Day weekend my husband and I and some friends got to go on a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas. There were a couple birthdays being celebrated but also just a great time hanging out with friends and skillfully avoiding Hurricane Hermine. For formal night, the guys rented tuxedos, while I got to bring out the thrifted formal wear. Talk about a wardrobe piece that is a perfect candidate to find at a second-hand store! There are lots of evening gowns, prom dresses and and fancy frippery found at your local thrift store. I found this 1920’s-looking black sequin formal dress complete with beaded fringe for less than $15 at Goodwill!
Because we were only traveling for 3 days, I kept the accessories pretty light. The chunky Mary Jane heels were great shoes to walk up and down the length of the ship, as well as dancing. They also fit the pre-war styling era and are apparently making a comeback this fall. (Like these classics ever went out of style!)
Next time you have a formal occasion, check out what can be found in the evening wear section of your local thrift store. You can save big bucks on items that have often only been worn a few times.
